Dos and Don'ts For your Natural Stone Surfaces.

Stone cleaning service

Natural stone offers beautiful visual aesthetics, making it a very popular choice for remodeling and new construction projects. However, when the natural stone floors and walls are laid, more often then not people are underinformed about the maintenance and hazards. To keep your surfaces looking great for years, you need to take extra care of the surfaces and ensure they are regularly cleaned and maintained. Now we are going to take a look at a list of DO’s and DON’TS that can help you keep your natural stone looking great throughout its entire lifetime:

DO:

  • Seal you Natural Stone Floor - Sealing the floor after every couple of years is important because the sealer will wear off from the top and can be a hazard for your floor.
  • Regularly Polish (Burnish) your stone floor - For this you need to buy your own small buffing machine and specific burnishing pads that fit your machine or just take maintenance plan for your natural stone floor. Keeping it polished is great help for your everyday maintenance, as it closes the pores in stone (specially with sealed floor).
  • Use Mild Detergent or Stone Soap – Don’t clean your natural stone with any old cleaning product. Ensure that you select something suitable for use on natural stone surfaces to avoid causing damage during cleaning.
  • Dust & Clean Regularly – Keeping your surfaces dust free and clean can dramatically extend their lifespan, and reduce the amount of sealing work that needs to be done on the project.
  • Clean Spills Quickly – If you do spill on your natural stone surface, ensure that you quickly clean it up; this will help you minimize potential staining issues.
  • Dry the Surface Completely – Even though natural stone surfaces are sealed, they are still susceptible to damage from moisture and liquid. Drying them completely after cleaning and use can help combat this issue.
  • Use Protective Floor Surfaces – For natural stone floors, particularly in high traffic areas, a protective floor covering is often a good investment. Non-slip mats or area rugs are good choices that can help prevent scratches and dulling.
  • Use Coasters – Particularly if the glass contains alcohol or citrus; the acids in these liquids can cause damage to natural stone, even if completely sealed.
  • Beware of Heat – If you regularly place hot cookware or dishes on your natural stone surface, be sure to use hot pads or mats to protect your natural stone surface.

DO NOT:

  • Use General Purpose Cleaners – Anything with vinegar, bleach, ammonia, or any acidic component is not a good choice for use on natural stone surfaces as it can cause damage. This includes anything with lemon juice in it, many bathroom cleaning products, as well as grout, tile, or tub cleaners.
  • Avoid Abrasives – Don’t polish your natural stone surface with anything that is abrasive; carefully check the label of any so-called dry or soft cleaning product to ensure that it won’t damage your surface.
  • Cut Directly on Your Surface – Always use a cutting board on natural stone surfaces. While it is unlikely that you will damage the surface with the blade itself, the juices released when cutting fruits, vegetables, or other foods can damage your surface.
  • Forget Maintenance Routine – Natural stone surfaces need to be regularly inspected and maintained. This includes re-sealing when needed to help minimize the risk to the surface, and unless you are diligent about care, you may find your natural stone surface damaged.

Hopefully these tips will help you with your Natural Stone Maintenance. In Quality Tile Care we are more then happy to answer any questions, big or small.

Outdoor porcelain tile patios add elegance and functionality to any home, creating the perfect space for entertaining, relaxing, and enjoying the beauty of nature. However, patios are continually exposed to weather, foot traffic, and daily wear and tear. This leads to a gradual buildup of grime, algae, and mud that can make the surface dull, slippery, and unsafe. Recently, Quality Tile Care took on a project in the lovely town of Alderley Edge, Cheshire, where we transformed a porcelain tiled patio back to its original glory with our thorough, professional deep cleaning service. The Initial State: A Patio in Need of Serious Cleaning The Alderley Edge patio had not been deep cleaned for quite some time, and the impact was evident. Mud, algae, and dirt were layered across the tiles, turning them dangerously slippery. With the goal of restoring the patio’s look and ensuring its safety, the homeowner reached out to us. At Quality Tile Care, we offer top-tier tile and grout cleaning services for both residential and commercial spaces across Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Derbyshire, and Liverpool, including locations like Altrincham, Stockport, Wilmslow, Knutsford, and beyond.
SHOWER BATH TILE, SILICONE SEALANT AND GROUT RESTORATION. COVERING MANCHESTER; Liverpool, Lancashire
by Quality Tile Care 26 September 2024
At Quality Tile Care , we recently took on a shower bath restoration project that turned out to be a perfect example of how professional tile and stone cleaning can breathe new life into your bathroom without the need for costly replacements. If you’ve been living with discoloured grout lines, dirty tiles, or mouldy silicone, there’s a more affordable and effective solution. Read on to see how we restored this shower bath to its former glory! The Problem: Dirty Grout and Mouldy Sealant In this project, the shower bath area had been suffering from the common issues faced by many homeowners: Dirty and discoloured grout lines that detract from the overall appearance of the bathroom. Mouldy silicone sealant around the bath and in the corners of the shower area, which is not only unsightly but can also lead to bigger issues like water damage if left untreated. These are typical signs of wear and tear in bathrooms, especially in areas exposed to high levels of moisture. While it might be tempting to consider a full replacement, we know that expert cleaning and restoration can be just as effective—and much more cost-efficient.
