Our customer had been living in the house in Worsley , Salford , Manchester for a year and wanted to replace this Travertine Tiled Floor due to it's poor look. Luckily they managed to find us before! After receiving a call from them we went to price the job and discovered the poor state this stone floor was in. It was never maintained the way it should have been. Our customer even washed this travertine tiled stone floor once with vinegar, which is one of the worst things you can do. We quickly agreed on the price and arranged dates for our Quality Tile Care specialist to complete the job.
On the arrival we started cleaning the travertine tilesand grout with our alkaline based strong cleaner. It contains no acids so it's suitable for all kinds of stone and tiles. We sprayed the strong solution on the stone floor and left it to dwell for about 10 minutes. This was followed up by scrubbing the travertine tiles with stiff brushes. For grout Ineeded a wire brush as it was in terrible condition. After cleaning we removed all soiled water with our wet vacuum and rinsed the floor with clean water.
After the chemical floor on this stone floor we moved on to burnishing. For burnishing natural stone we use our diamond burnishing pads. On this particular traverine floor we started from 400 grit to remove old sealer and burnish out acid stains, then moved to 800, 1500 and finished off with 3000 grit.We used some clean water as a lubricant and by using water we didn't create any dust. After each pad we rinsed the floor and removed soiled water with our wet vacuum.
We started off with 400 grit, with some water as a lubricant. The first 400 grit removes the old sealer off the tiled floor. When the whole stone floor was burnished, then all the soiled water got removed with wet vacuum. Next, we moved on to the Medium 800 grit pad which is less coarse than the 400 grit, but rough enough still to break down layers of ingrained dirt in stone. This got followed up with the application of a Fine 1500 grit pad, which started to smooth down the rough areas of the stone surface to prepare the travertine tile floor for a final polish with an even finer burnishing pad later on. After the last pad, stone floor got rinsed once more. After the last pad all cracks and holes in the travertine tiles got filled in and then the floor was left to dry till the next day.
When we returned on the next day to finish off the travertine floor restoration, we used a damp tester to make sure there was no damp left in stone tiles.Travertine floor has to be completely dry in order to seal.We also discovered few more unfilled holes which we quickly filled in.
We returned the next day to apply the high shine finish on travertine tiles. It's a second sealer we applied on the floor, first one penetrates in the tiles and second one buffed on top to protect from outside. The high shine sealer comes as a powder and got buffed on the floor with water and soft white pad fitted on the rotary machine followed by removing the powdered water with wet vacuum. It is a slow process but really makes a difference. We gave another rinse to the travertine tiled floor with water and the floor was finished.
Customer was extremely happy with the completed work and couldn't thank us more. She finally had the beautiful travertine floor looking like it should! Also it was comforting for her to know the floor was also protected.
Before leaving, we also informed the customer about maintenance of the stone floorand offered our personalised Maintenance plan, which they took. This means we will be polishing the floor up yearly to make sure it is protected and looks beautiful for our customer.
