This time we got called out to see this old but beautiful carpet covered Victorian Tile Floor in Dukinfield
, Tameside
, Manchester. Victorian Tilesare timeless, beautiful and very robust. From their origins from thirteenth century and Gothic Revival architecture to the mass production of the Industrial Revolution, Victorian tiles have stood the test of time. Today, they remain as fashionable as when they first came into style in the 19th century. No wonder our customer wanted to get the victorian hallway restored. Our customer had tried to clean the floor themselves but didn't have too much luck and needed to get it done professionally.
When we went to see the floor we explained our work process and customer was more then happy to book us in straight away.
This floor had problems with carpet underlay glue, old topical sealer and ingrained dirt. First off we started with the glue removing. For that we used our HBU Cleaner Gel, which is very effective with breaking down heavily soiled build up areas, glues and sealers. We applied it on glue and left it to dwell in for about 30 minutes which was followed up by scrubbing with strong scrubbing pad. Unfortunately it wasn't enough as the glue was extremely stong and we also had to bring our steamer into the mix, the combination of the HBU cleaner and steamer did the trick for us.
Next we move on to stripping any old sealer and paint stains with our multi-purpose stripper. It is formulated with a long dwell-time to remove most coatings and sealers, epoxy grout haze, urethane coatings, synthetic finishes, adhesives and paints. We left the product on floor for about 15 minutes and then scrubbed with strong srcubbing pad fitted to rotary machine. After scrubbing with machine we went over the edges with hand scrubbing pad to make sure we didn't damage the skirting boards and then removed all soiled water with wet vacuum.
All coatings removed from surface I moved on to ingrained dirt. For cleaning out ingrained dirt I used 200 grit diamond burnishing pad. For burnishing we used some water as a lubricant and when we were done I removed all soiled water with our wet vax machine.
After floor was clean I carefully rinsed the entire floor three times with fresh water to rid the floor of any excess chemicals left over from the cleaning. I then removed the water with my wet vax machine and left the floor dry out for sealing treatment.
I left the floor to dry for five days as there was a slight dampness issue in one corner. When I returned to the property, I made sure the floor was completely dry by conducting several damp tests. There was still some dampness in that corner and few other areas, so I used my heat gun to resolve the issue. After spending about an hour drying out damp areas, this victorian floor was finally ready for sealing.
For sealing I used 4 coats of the breathing topical sealer. Itis a special acrylic-based formula which allows moisture vapour transmission making it fully breathable and ideal for situations where no damp proof membrane has been installed and where mineral salt deposits (efflorescence) are more likely to occur which is not uncommon with these old floors. This film forming sealer also leaves a sheen and enhances tiles appearance.
This floors restoration results were simply amazing, the floor looked like new again. Our customer was over the moon with the floors transformation, which again made us proud doing our job and helping people.
