We got a website enquiry about this dirty quarry floor by our customer in Hale
, Trafford
, Greater Manchester
who just had bought the house and now was in desperate need to get the quarry floor restored, as he told us it's the original floor and it will add to the character of the house. Quarrytile is a clay based tile and is extensively used for floors where a very durable material is required. It can be used either indoors or outdoors, although freeze-resistant grades of tile should be used outdoors in climates where freeze-thaw action occurs. Quarry tile is used less often as a wall finish and is occasionally used for countertops, although the wide grout joints can make cleaning of countertops difficult. Most commercial kitchens
require a quarry tile to be used because of its slip resistant and non-porous properties.
When we saw this floor, we knew it was going to require very hard work but of course we accepted the challenge and booked him in.
For cleaning the Dirty Quarryfloor we used a strong sealer and coatings stripper as the floor was covered in carpet underlay adhesive. We left the product to dwell in for about 15 mins, so it would break down the dirt and adhesive, this was followed by scrubbing with strong black scrubbing pad fitted to our rotary machine. When the quarry tiled floor scrubbing was done we quickly removed the soiled water with wet vacuum and gave another rinse to the floor to get rid of the last chemicals and dirt left on the old floor.
When we finally got finished with the big deep cleaning on this quarry floor we had to go over the edges. On the edges was thicker glue and it wasn't easy to get it off but we got the problem solved by getting on our knees and using our steamer, scraper and the stripping product.
After the edges were finished we gave the whole quarry tiled floor another rinse and left it to dry for couple of days.
On the sealing day first thing was using damp tester to see if the floor was dry enough for sealing. Unfortunately there was some damp left in few places, so we had to dry these areas out by using industrial fans and high power heat guns.
When the quarry floor was properly dry we started sealing.
For Sealing the Quarry Floor we used Colour Enhancing Impregnating Sealer. This sealer leaves a matt finish, as it penetrates in the tiles. It it very effective against water, oil and other liquids that might damage the floor. This quarry floor needed 4 generous coats as it wasn't sealed for tens of years. I think it's safe to say the floor was transformed and even the customer wasn't expecting a result like this!
In Quality Tile Care we just love making a difference like we did on this job with Quarry Tile Floor Cleaning and Sealing!
